Sandra Nadelin, M.ED, Counseling PSYCH,
Professional Teaching Cert.,
RTC and CHTP
I have been involved in education for about 25 years, ranging from primary (grade 1) right up to G.E.D., and DRUG and ALCOHOL orientation for the Social Work Program at the College of New Caladonia. Nine years were spent working in Aboriginal Education for School District #57, as well as two years at the Youth Containment Center. This was followed by six years in Jr. Alternate Education (Grade 10) and then two years teaching in Jr. P.E.P. and Grade 8 Transition classes. Next came one year assisting in developing a district wide Elementary Counseling Program in Quesnel, one year in Elementary Counseling working out of eight schools and the last two years Elementary Counseling at Carney Hill Elementary, P.G., an inner-city school. In addition I have maintained a small private practice over the last 15 years in counseling and communication skills training, as well as completing 1/3 of a Ph.D program in Human Development.
My experiences include having provided many workshops over the years re; working with aboriginal students, motivation developing inner-discipline and, recently, on bully-proofing. I see tremendous need to support and encourage the incredible range of effective work already being done by teachers working with students today, under difficult circumstances. What I can offer are additional techniques, skills and philosophies that are effective in reaching and promoting self-management within difficult or troubled students.
Counseling one-to-one will also be available, as determined by the priorities of the School Based Teams and the School Goals of Zone 2, that I am now a part of.
Another major area of focus today needs to be on teachers providing themselves with self-care. We all need a maintenance program to be able to process and release the stresses involved in being an educator and balancing personal life. It doesn’t happen by accident! We deserve some of our attention.
I look forward to offering any in-service that you request, and will make sure that I provide you with an energizing and fun experience, with some practical new skills and approaches to use.
In wise words from the work of Dr. William Glasser, “If learning experiences do not include fun, there will be minimal learning.”
