Restitution
is an approach to discipline and counseling which encourages a person
to grow towards self-evaluation, self-discipline and self-respect. It teaches a person to behave because it
is the right thing to do rather than to avoid punishment or gain a reward
from another.
Restitution is a way to invite people to:
·
Consider
the needs behind their behavior, fix their mistakes, and learn to make
better choices.
·
Create
the social contract (shared values of the family, the school, the
community).
·
Behave
to gain self-respect and be the kind of person they want to be.
